Beate Schulze
My photographic language seeks abstraction and poetry in nature and urban contexts. I complement my visual language with the written word – ranging from poetry to ‘thick description’ in the style of urban ethnography.
- born in 1971 in Leipzig
- first attempts with a camera at the age of 7, out and about on roller skates in the newly built neighbourhood of Leipzig-Schönefeld, searching for signs of nature in the still barren front gardens
- trained in artistic photography at the VHS Leipzig and under A. Hein at the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Chemnitz-Zwickau, now Chemnitz University of Technology
- lives and works in Geneva
